Sarah Rojus was a beautiful healer, daughter to her more famous, but now aging healer Margaritte. Victor Skarbalius was the ruler of the land. He was very powerful. Her father was aging too, and not in quite as good health as even her mother. All the people of Dubrovya respected the man, even as they feared him. They had reason to fear him. He had repelled and overhtrown many of his enemies, there had been unnatural deaths in the towers of the huge castle that loomed over them from the mountain, and anyone who visited and returned related tales of odd goings on and mysterious movements along the imposing castle walls.
